WHAT I DID

You were about to ask “What did you do?” So I made you a checklist.

CHALLENGE

The client aimed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of The Endless Summer with a limited-edition collector’s box set. However, they faced significant challenges, including a lack of an established digital presence, no social media following, no email list, and persistent production delays that threatened to derail the launch.

INSIGHT

The target audience, consisting of older surfing enthusiasts and collectors, particularly in Southern California, valued the nostalgic and cultural significance of The Endless Summer. Positioning the box set as a must-have collector’s item could build excitement and overcome the logistical hurdles.

OPPORTUNITY

To establish a digital presence from scratch and execute a high-impact launch campaign that appealed to affluent surf enthusiasts and collectors, while navigating tight timelines and production challenges.

SOLUTION

I developed and executed a multi-channel strategy to address the challenges:

  1. Digital Presence: Built an e-commerce website and established social media channels to connect with the target audience.
  2. PR Partnerships: Secured collaborations with Red Bull and key surfing publications to amplify the campaign’s reach and credibility.
  3. Launch Event: Organized a high-profile event in Huntington Beach, bringing together iconic surfing figures to celebrate the anniversary.
  4. Adaptable Strategy: Adjusted the campaign timeline to accommodate production delays, ensuring a polished and impactful rollout.

SOLUTION

  • The launch event became a cultural celebration, creating significant buzz and reinforcing the collector’s box set as a must-have item.
  • Successfully sold out the limited-edition sets, exceeding sales expectations despite initial challenges.
  • Established The Endless Summer brand’s digital presence, paving the way for future campaigns and offerings.
